Course syllabus
Students will enjoy a mix of lectures and workshop time, where they will get to practice various tools and apply them to their reflective learning.
Pre Course Work
Set up your profile, explore Figma, join the community, and begin prep activities.
Week 1
Kick off with course orientation, dive into design thinking, service design fundamentals, key tools, systems thinking, and your project briefing.
Week 2
Explore the problem space, map competitors, prep for client interviews and co-creation, and identify users, stakeholders, and market opportunities.
Week 3
Debrief the client workshop, dive into user research methods, and build a solid research strategy with interviews and surveys.
Week 4
Live Qualitative Research Workshops
Week 5
Analyze survey results, define user needs and personas, and map customer journeys to consolidate key insights.
Week 6
Learn ideation methods, frame problems with “How Might We” and hypotheses, and visualize solutions through mapping and storyboarding.
Week 7
Get creative with Crazy 8s, envision future experiences, prototype with Model Office, and document with Service Manuals.
Week 8
Sketch interfaces, write for conversation and AI, prototype across disciplines, and refine through critique, iteration, and testing assumptions.
Week 9
Test your designs through internal reviews, unmoderated sessions, and live user testing workshops.
Week 10
Debrief test results, iterate using agile methods, prioritize improvements, and build a full service blueprint.
Week 11
Craft service blueprints, shape compelling stories with a clear narrative arc, and plan implementation with effective change management.
Week 12
Wrap up with your final presentation, blueprint walkthrough, and MVP agreement—then prepare your portfolio and plan your next steps into service design.

  • The course will give you not only the depth, the substance and rigour of the academic qualification, but also the design ‘workshop’ vibe you can get from less formal courses. We fit ourselves in the middle of something that’s fun, collaborative, creative, workshop orientated, but very thorough as well.
Double Diamond Process.
  • The course is centered around the Double Diamond process which was created by the British Design Council. As you work through the course, you’ll be taking these different methods and tools and applying them to your project, with the help of your instructor.
Learning the Tools, and the Mindset.
  • You will learn all the essential things you need to know as a Service Designer like system thinking, relationship mapping, how to project plan, how to prioritise, and more. You will learn the service design tools but also the mindset of being a service designer.
  • A series of online tools (Figjam, Figma, and more) will be used to apply the learnings and capture key insights.
  • The course is conducted online, via Zoom. Classes are live, and held twice a week. (from 6:30pm-8:30pm London time) either on Monday and Wednesday evenings, or Tuesday and Thursday evenings, depending on your chosen start date.
